How the Standard System Works

Step 1 Select the terms of the warranty e.g. 3 months, £500 claim limit and scheme 2 for parts coverage and enter on the proposal form.

Step 2 If the warranty is to be included in the screen price it should not be separated on the invoice. Should you decide to make a separate charge for your warranty then a warranty price list must be displayed and the warranty must be shown separately on the invoice. If you do make a separate charge, remember that VAT has to be included at 17.5%.

Step 3 Put the warranty income into an interest bearing account to fund claims. When claims have been paid the remainder is additional profit for you.

Step 4 When a warranty is used, enter the details decided in Step 1 and number it with a traceable number. Such as your invoice or stock number for that vehicle.

Step 5 Remind the customer of their responsibility to have the car serviced within the terms of the warranty to validate it. This is an opportunity for the dealer to capture regular service income directly or through a nominated garage.

Step 6 In the event of a claim follow the claims and conciliation procedure detailed in the Dealer Operating Guide.
